iPhone SE(2020), iPhone XR, iPhone 11

In April 2020, Apple released the new iPhone SE(2020), also known as the iPhone SE 2 or iPhone 9. Pre-orders for the iPhone SE(2020) began on April 17, and the smartphone was released on April 24. The smartphone looks almost the same as the iPhone 8, but with the hardware from the iPhone 11. It was also endowed with useful features such as water resistance and wireless charging. And, of course, it runs the latest version of iOS which will be upgraded to iOS 14 later in 2020. In fact, Apple offers a small modern smartphone at a very affordable price($399 for the 64GB model).

Should you order a new iPhone SE or choose a more expensive iPhone XR or iPhone 11? Let's look at all the nuances in more detail.

  • The dimensions of the devices are as follows:

    1. iPhone SE(2020): 138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3mm (148g)
    2. iPhone XR: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3mm (194g)
    3. iPhone 11: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3mm (194g)

    4.

Externally, the iPhone SE(2020) resembles an exact copy of the iPhone 8, which will appeal to lovers of small phones. The smartphone is available in only three colors: black, white, and red(ProductRED), while the iPhone XR and the iPhone 11 can boast a wider range of colors. The iPhone SE has a Touch ID and the Home button, while the iPhone 11 and the iPhone XR use Face ID technology. Accordingly, the first one has rather large top and bottom bezels, while the other two are bezel-less and have a notch at the top of the screen. As we already mentioned, all three devices are water-resistant. The iPhone SE and the iPhone XR are IP67-rated, while the iPhone XR has a rating of IP68.

Display
All three models have LCD displays. Both the iPhone 11 and the iPhone XR have a 6.1-inch, Liquid Retina LCD display with a resolution of 1792 x 828 pixels, which provides a pixel density of 326ppi. The iPhone SE(2020) is equipped with a 4.7-inch LCD display with a resolution of 1334 x 750 pixels, which also gives 326ppi. And it also has True Tone technology, like the other two models. The displays support Dolby Vision and HDR10 playback.

Camera
There is no doubt that out of all three, the iPhone 11 is the best camera phone, with a dual camera on the back and a 12MP TrueDepth camera on the front. The iPhone 11 offers a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle f/2.4 camera and a wide-angle f/1.8 sensor. It features optical image stabilization(OIS), a brighter True Tone flash, and Portrait Lighting with six effects along with second-generation Smart HDR for photos and a new night mode.

As for the iPhone XR, it features a single 12-megapixel rear camera with f/1.8 aperture, OIS, and 5x zoom. It also has Portrait Lighting with three effects and first-generation Smart HDR for photos.

The iPhone SE(2020) has a single camera, just like the iPhone XR, but despite this, it has many camera features from the iPhone 11, such as Portrait Lighting with six effects and Depth Control along with the second-generation Smart HDR, but except night mode. The front camera can work in portrait mode but without Animoji or Memoji. And you cannot use portrait mode if there is no human face in the focus.

Speaking of video, all three phones can record 4K video at up to 60 frames per second and Slo-mo up to 240 frames per second at 1080p resolution. .

Hardware
The iPhone SE is powered by the A13 Bionic chipset, like the iPhone 11, while the iPhone XR has the A12.

The iPhone XR and 11 offer 64 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB storage options, while the iPhone SE is available in 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB variants. Both the iPhone SE and the iPhone 11 support Wi-Fi 6, although the wireless antennas of the iPhone 11 are better. All three smartphones support nano-SIM and eSIM. All three phones also support 4G, but not 5G.

All three phones can be charged wirelessly with a Qi charger. They also have a Quick Charging feature, which means up to about 50% charge in 30 minutes with an adapter of 18W or higher(sold separately)

What is the conclusion?
If we evaluate smartphones by the standards of modern trends in the world of smartphones, it is obvious that the iPhone 11 is superior to its rivals. If you compare it with the iPhone XR, you can see that the user experience will be very similar. The main difference is the second camera of the iPhone 11. The iPhone SE is presented as a combination of advanced features and a compact size, all at an affordable price. Compared to XR, the camera on the iPhone SE(2020) is better thanks to additional software improvements. If you like small phones and are used to a design based on Touch ID, then the iPhone SE(2020) can be a good option.
